Some sad news for my fellow CVS shoppers...CVS has made the decision to discontinue the Green Bag Tag program - today I unexpectedly received $2 ExtraCare Bucks along with a message stating "We are sorry but our Green Bag Tag program has ended. Please accept these ExtraBucks Rewards for your past participation. Your tag is recyclable"
As I've previously posted and you may know, the Green Bag Tag served as a bonus way to earn ExtraCare Bucks by opting to not use plastic bags and for doing so, CVS would reward shoppers with $1 in ECBs on every 4th tag scan for being "green".
No word on the reason behind the discontinuation.
Another change definitely worth mentioning is that CVS has now changed the way that percentage off coupons are applied when used in conjunction with ExtraCare Bucks (and possibly CVS coupons??? - Post in the comments if you can verify that). If you've signed up for CVS emails, you likely receive percentage off (ex. 20% off) or dollars off (ex. $4 off $20) coupons weekly. Their system now only deducts the percentage off coupons to your balance after all ECBs are applied. This is an important thing to note because the percentage off coupons could end up being of less value. But a penny saved is a penny saved!
Sidenote: The value of the dollars off coupons (ex. $4 off $20) does not change - so keep an eye out for those in your email and be sure to use them whenever they are available.
Happy Shopping!
